Butoh dancer and Noguchi Taiso practitioner from Berlin.
Imre Thormann was born in 1966 in Bern. He’s been a member of a punk band, has a black belt in Taekwondo, and studied Alexander Technique in Basel. In 1990 he made Tokyo his permanent home where he taught Alexander at the same time as learning Butoh from Kazuo Ohno and Noguchi Taiso from Noguchi Michizo (Noguchi is a Japanese form of body work, a bit like Alexander technique, working with movement and principles of nature). He’s performed internationally since 1993 and is regularly giving workshops in butoh and Noguchi taiso. Since 2006 he’s made Berlin his permanent residence.
“In my workshops I do not convey any fixed form or technique, but the principles that form the basis of movement (spiral, wave, gravity, emotion etc.). We focus on everyday movements like standing and walking, as well as on emotional forms of expression. We establish a basis that enables us to exchange conventional patterns of movement for fresh approaches that will help us to execute movements more easily.”
Imre is teaching noguchi and butoh in Berlin on a regular basis. You can visit his classes on Tuesday from 18.00 until 20.00 (Noguchi) or on Thursday from 19.00 to 21.00 (Butoh) at TheaterHaus Mitte (Wallstraße 32). He is also giving private lessons in Noguchi Taiso and Alexander Technique, contact him for more information.
