Perhaps the most controversial theater in Berlin, because of its tumultuous past and bizarre line up of what some people may call simply freak show performances, makes the term avant-garde seem even more dated. The highly conceptualized, yet raw and unrelenting performative explosions displayed on this stage make the theater’s desire to be a populist venue impossible. The directors’ tendencies towards political/social commentary are what unite this seemingly random and unrelated program. Perhaps not the best productions, but most definitely the most controversial make this paradoxical theater so exciting.
