On the 21st of october, as a part of “The Waiting Room Project” I interviewed 9 persons asking them what was their main interests as spectators when they come to see a performance or a show. From their answers I tried to make a map or a picture. The 9 interviews took 3 hours and a half. The last person who was interviewed would be proposed to witness the next one.
I wrote the words that seemed the most relevant of what was being said, and then asked the person to remove or clarify the list. Then I asked them to choose the three most important words or sentences in regards of their interest.
From these tree words we made a little game trying to combine the three words in two words or sentence, then in one, using objects to represent them. It created the following results (the words or sentences picked are in small letters and then their associations are in capitals).

1

Somehow, no offence to the interviewed, I like best the random association of everything they said concerning their interests as spectator. In the text I added “that’s” or “this is” it somehow refers to the spectator interest.

that’s the perfect balance

that’s a good mood
that’s quite relaxing

this is the need of a certain kind of satisfaction
this is the TV and the theater together
this is totally constructed
this is flowing
this is what you see
this brings you in the moment
this is to grab the essence of a certain thing
this is sensing
this is the thing around (witch are the most interesting)
this is a new view on something
this is the past experience and it’s relation with the transformation happening now (ice melting)
this is being in relation this is to experience a new idea

These are the quotes from Agamben I found interesting to share related as well to my interest as a spectator and to what interests me as a development of the interview project in general.

“to belong and at the same time not belong to oneself”

“when we try to grasp a concept as so, it becomes an object, and the price to pay is to not being able to distinguish it from a thing perceived.”

“the name naming something is nothing else than the thing being named by the name”

“the show is the language, the communicatively or the linguistic being of man.”
