17 to 20 March 2011 – Performances, talks, and showings.
For the fleeting, for that which remains unfixed, for the passing, for that which is lacking stability, for the one who escapes, for standing in for what is missing, for providing temporary relief, for those provisional efforts, for that which forecasts a change, for this moment in time.
The project amplifies and extends the activities of a community of Berlin-based makers engaged with performance, presence and temporality, by bringing their artistic practices into an intensified proximity. For The Time Being is a four day reflection-affection-investigation chamber in which formats of artistic enquiry neighbour, inform and examine one another. This assembly offers itself as an aesthetic and critical engagement in formulating and re-formulating the emerging present. If For The Time Being were a dog it could be caught sniffing out and around the momentary nature of certainties.
For The Time Being ventures into the realm of social and communal making as an exercise of sustainability outside of institutional support. As an independent initiative, this assembly displaces the usual conditions of distribution/ production in performance economy. It is an act of a community affirming and inscribing itself into the present, into presence, however ephemeral this may be. For the time being a community grants itself temporary visibility.
