PLAYberlin recommends: Picnic in Foret Noir @ Direktorenhaus

A PLAYberlin Collaboration:

“Picnic in Foret Noir”  A night of surprises at Direktorenhaus

An informal feast of book signing, discursive picnicking, action weaving, illustration and performance

Date: 22/07 /2010

Time: 7pm

Entrance: Free

Picnic Foret noir Hajek

Inspired by Olaf Hajek’s illustration Foret Noir from his current exhibition at Direktorenhaus, the “Picnic in Foret Noir” starts with the opportunity to meet the artist himself who will be signing copies of his beautiful book “Flowerheads”, bring your copy or buy one on the night.

But of course the Foret Noir is no ordinary forest.

Bring snacks and join the Discursive Picnic with UNWETTER, the collective who have since 2002 mastered the art of picnicking everywhere from the Hamburger Bahnhof to Documenta11.

And what will you sit on? Join Action Weaver, Travis Meinolf, who will bring his prototype looms and teach you how to weave the very cloth for your very own picnic blanket. Meanwhile you can expect the forest to come to life around you with PLAYberlin’s interpretation of Hajek’s work. You can even become part of the forest yourself and have your photo taken in the Foret Noir Photo Booth.

We’d love to say more, but you’ll just have to come down to the Foret Noir for a big surprise…

This event is totally free, but bring your yarn to weave with, bring food for the picnic … and our bar will be open.

From 19.00 till 23.00

ECHO FAKES THE PRESENT: #1st public showing

Sarah Echo

I begin by remembering what i once read: The fake is the unhappy offspring of a present without depth…….

In my mind fake leads me to a list of associations from the act of deception to fraudulence, to the description of that which is superficial to not that deep, to the form of a replica or copy to the idea of reflection and then ripples and reverberates and ever so slowly arrives at….. echo.

#1st public showing of Sarah Lewis’ (Lewis Forever) new piece

PLAYberlin recommends: IDEE DESA KOMMUNISMUS KONFERENZ

Heute in Deutsch:

Idee des Kommunismus

Wir empfehlen Folgendes:

“Idee des Kommunismus – Philosophie und Kunst Konferenz”

Datum: 25-27.06.2010

Kurzauszug:

Idea of Communism. Philosophy and Art is a scientific/artistic conference aimed at considering the concept of “Communism” from a new perspective and including its multiple significations. For three days, all rooms in the Volksbühne will be devoted to this event. “Since the labour movements in the 19th century and their interpretation by great minds of the times, the word “Communism” has been at the intersection between politics and philosophy. Therefore, nowadays it must be considered on the basis of both its ideal content and the actual experiences to which it has been associated and in which it has been seriously compromised.” (Alain Badiou) The conference will focus on a review of the socialist States that embodied the motive of a “dictatorship of the proletariat” in the 20th century. With this in mind, it will host a significant number of participants from Eastern European countries. The main events are four philosophical panels on the subject “The word Communism: between philosophical criticism and an actual review of the socialist States” led by Alain Badiou (Paris) and Slavoj Žižek (Ljubljana). The aesthetical approach to the subject is an art program including performances, installations, films and concerts. (find out more here: http://www.volksbuehne-berlin.de)
