Kvartira Nr62
A great bar in Kreuzberg with authentic atmosphere, hosting weekly live music events and film nights. The interior is very cozy and is made to look like the inside of an apartment ("kvartira" in Russian means "apartment). They serve Russian food there – very good borsch and pelmeni. Mostly local crowd from the neighborhood.Opened from 11am until 2am Sunday - Thursday and 11am till 4am on Friday and Saturday. Drinks are 2-3 eur, food is 4-6 eur.
Address: 62, Luebbener str, Metro: Schlessisches Tor, Berlin, Germany
Fuchsbau
A hip bar off Kottbusser Bridge in Kreuzberg, Fuchsbau is notorious for being the hangout for the cool crowd. During the weekend it gets packed and serves as a pre-party venue. During the afternoon they serve food and have a summer terrace, which gets little sun though.
Address: 96, Planufer, Metro: Schoenleinstrasse, Berlin, Germany

Transit
Transit is a Portuguese cafe on Schlesische Straße in Berlin, formerly known as Ohio. It is run by Jose and Julia, a couple from the same town in Portugal who didn't meet each other until they moved to Berlin. The cafe offers chili, quiche, and empanadas (with spinach and feta cheese, meat, and tuna fish, sandwiches, and soup) daily, and specials which vary day-to-day like Mouqueca (a Portuguese stew with fish, shrimp and coconut milk, served with rice), Mousakka, and stuffed peppers. At night it is a relaxed place to drink cocktails, listen to music and hang out with friends. They also host evenings with DJs and other musical acts. They play good music, as there are at least two DJs working there. The other employees are film makers, clothing designers, choreographers, etc. This exciting mixture of creative people produces an easy-going and fun atmosphere.
The decor has become more colorful and cozy with the change of ownership, they now offer W-Lan access for their customers, and the usual mix of second hand, mismatched couches, chairs, tables and lamp remains.
Address: 35a, Schlesische Straße, Metro: U Schlesisches Tor, Berlin, Germany
KM36
KM36 is a bar on Karl-Marx Allee. I don't know much about it but I'm going there tonight and will tell you all about it.It is basically a large glass cube and was formerly a GDR-era beauty salon. It has two floors, with the upper floor looking down onto the ground floor. From what I understand, it has no name and has been called KM36 by the people that go there so they all know where they're supposed to go.
Address: 36, Karl-Marx Allee, Metro: U-Bahnhoff Schillingstraße, Berlin, Germany

lauralee
Probably the most popular Berlin bar and club, the first point of stop for travelers. Has a real "americana" feel to it, and often features good live acts and DJs. The problem with it is that the food is shit, the owner is a monster, and staff is chronically overworked. The place itself is overcrowded and caters towards mainstream under the label of "underground".

Luzia
A relatively new cafe opened in the end of 2007 on Oranienstrasse in Kreuzberg is very "Berlin" yuppie kind of place. Cool people, rustic interior, nonchalant staff, DJs on Fridays and Saturdays. Looks like they successfully cloned what places like Morena and nearby Bateau Ivre has started, but made it a bit more fancy and a bit too cool.
Address: 34, Oranienstr, Metro: Kottbuser Tor, Berlin, Germany
freezingspam
A nice small, cozy and hip bar frequented by Russians, gays, occasional tourists, and local hipsters. The music is mostly electro and funk, prices are quite low, occasionally hosts short performances. The name CCCP means USSR and should be pronounced as "SSSR". The bar has some Soviet theme going on for sure, but it's not the focus, which is quite a relief.
Address: 136, Torstr, Metro: Rosenthaler Platz, Berlin, Germany
Paloma
Perhaps it's the smallest bar in Kreuzberg, near its epicentre Kottbusser Tor metro. Nice people, cool funky music, tight but fun. A few other cool bars are just around the corner.
Address: 133, Skalitzer, Metro: Kottbusser Tor, Berlin, Germany
Bar 25
Legendary Berlin open air club / cafe / bar located on the bank of Spree river. Designed as rodeo-like Disneyland for adults, this place attracts young crowds and is often packed on weekends with wasted but happy club goers. During the winter it only functions as a restaurant (opened from Wed thru Sat), but a very good one. On Wednesdays they invite a guest cook and you can have a 3-course meal for €15 per head. Reservations are necessary (call from 12 till 18.00)
There were talks about this place being closed down, but we have been confirmed that it's going to stay alive at least till October 2008.
