ECHO FAKES THE PRESENT: #1st public showing

Sarah Echo

I begin by remembering what i once read: The fake is the unhappy offspring of a present without depth…….

In my mind fake leads me to a list of associations from the act of deception to fraudulence, to the description of that which is superficial to not that deep, to the form of a replica or copy to the idea of reflection and then ripples and reverberates and ever so slowly arrives at….. echo.

#1st public showing of Sarah Lewis’ (Lewis Forever) new piece

Friday July 9th
10:00 pm
14 Dresdenerstr.

PLAYberlin introduces: Savvy Contemporary

Savvy Contemporary is a pretty new gallery in Neukölln and will host some of our upcoming TAMTAMTAM Salons, which is a new format next to the music and performance nights. What it is in detail, we will announce soon. But first, read more about our friends at Savvy gallery:

SAVVY CONTEMPORARY – the laboratory of form ideas is a new, ambitious art space in Berlin aimed at fostering the dialogue between “western art” and “non-western art”.

The gallery features different formats:

ARTS

Every two months, SAVVY CONTEMPORARY will present an exhibition in its gallery space aimed at fostering the dialogue between “western art” and “non-western art”. In this light, a curator will be invited by SAVVY’s art direction to further invite an artist from Europe or North-America and another artist from Africa, South-America, Asia or Australia. This trialogue will be moderated by the invited curator. The process of the trialogue and its result will culminate in an exhibition and a publication to the exhibition.

EVENTS

Performance Art
SAVVY Contemporary will anchor, on a monthly basis, a performance art show. Performance artists from the fields of theater, contemporary dance, synthesis, etc will have the possibilities of experimenting, reminiscent on Marinetti’s concept of performance art in the premises of the SAVVY Contemporary.

Performance art at SAVVY Contemporary will be coordinated by Cilgia Gadola (cilgia.gadola@postmail.ch)

Cooking Performances
SAVVY Contemporary will host a monthly cooking performance for a limited clientele. The kitchen will offer three-course menus from different countries and continents. Contact SAVVY Contemporary to acquire a place on the waiting list.

Cooking performances at savvy contemporary will be coordinated by Hannah Chaker (hannah.chaker@web.de)

Music Performances
Music performances are the backbone of the SAVVY Contemporary. Experimental Jazz, Modern Classic, Improvisations are just a few points of interests.

Music performances at SAVVY Contemporary will be coordinated by Robert Würz

Cine Club
The Cine Club at SAVVY will present selected movies and documentaries.  Jewels of movie history and rare films will be shown on two dates every two months.

If you need a CUE…

This Friday, 7th of August, our friends from CUE are hosting their regular (anti) event, this time on the bridge near Reichstag.

What is CUE? On the surface, it’s kind of an open improv night where people come and play together. But on a deeper level it offers much more. While most events do everything possible to be “successful”, CUE leaves it to the audience to make something out of it. That means that it leaves a space for failure, weirdness, fun, boredom, party, creativity – and anything else the people bring in. That’s why they sometimes call it “anti-event”, a kind of accidental meeting with no expectations and no commitments, a sort of arrangement to pass by at a certain time in a certain place and see what happens.

So…

CUE ON THE BRIDGE, FRIDAY 7th AUGUST 8 PM:

next to the Paul Löbe Haus, 1 min from Reichstag, between Sbahn Hauptbahnof and Friedrichstr.

PLAYBerlin Recommends: Creature Feature – Queer Performance Series

We invite you to the first edition of Creature Feature, a queer performance series presenting works in progress, improvisations, videos, lectures and group actions in an intimate and informal setting.

Tuesday August 4th @ 21:00 Basso FREE ENTRANCE

Jeremy Wade + Brendan Dougherty – Improvisation

Eike Wittrock – Lecture, On Canine Love and Swans

Eva Maria Bakardjiev – Performance, Ambiguous Pattern

Tomi Paasonen – Performance, Work in Progress excerpts from .. WOW ¥€$
Staged & Choreographed by Tomi Paasonen
With Simo Kellokumpu, Justin Kennedy and Helga Wretman

We propose that performing otherness is a threshold towards repositioning our habitual understanding of queer ideals. Creature Feature will work to create an intimate space for performing dispossession, rapture, monstrosity, flamboyance, glitter, hysteria and general ecstatic irrationality. Or la la la… its opposites!

Curated by Jeremy Wade

Directions – BASSO – 187 Kopenicker Str. enter through courtyard
Metro – Schlesisches Tor
