Video series where people share their essential life skills in a concise, yet comprehensive manner.

The Life Skills is an educational video project initiated by Dmitry Paranyushkin and The Solvents. It is a composition of short interviews where people are invited to share a skill that they have. Proposed to share their knowledge in a concise, yet comprehensive manner, spelling out every detail that goes through their mind while performing the activity, protagonists give an account of seemingly ordinary activities in a very extraordinary way. The question is always the same, and the answer is easily predictable, however what comes out from The Life Skills is the specificity of each individual in the way they approach the task and interact with the interviewer. Over time these small details become more visible than the actual skill relayed. As a result, something very personal, subjective, and even emotional is given enough space to emerge within the space that’s predictable, generic, and everyday.

Some people who took part in The Life Skills Series: Diego Agullo, Matt Lord, Celine Smith, Klaus Kruse, Dani d’Emilia, Christine de Smedt, Johannes Wengel, Myriam van Imschoot, Jan Ritsema, Emma Kim Hagdahl, Fruszi Jesse, Berno odo Polzner, Nikolaus Gansterer, Peter van Bogaert, Peter Ampe, Lenia Kaklea, Jonas Nachtergale, and others.

Subscribe to The Life Skills channel on Vimeo to be informed when the new series are out.

Audio-video presentation and talk about archive.

This Sunday, the 19th of December, Grischa Lichtenberger will talk about the role of archive in his creative practice. He will start at 20.00 with presenting a live music-video performance followed by a talk about his working process.

I find Grischa’s work and his way of thinking very inspiring. Especially the idea of “treibgut” or flotsam as a way of relating to the material that just passes by, waiting for its moment to be released back into the flow or integrated into something more concrete. I won’t write more as I don’t want to dilute his ideas with my interpretations, so hope to see you all there on Sunday.

Grischa’s website is http://grischa-lichtenberger.com/

The address of my studio is:
Kunstfabrik (between Badeschiff and Club der Visionaere, the orange door)
3 Am Flutgraben, 12435, Berlin

We meet at 19:55 outside of the orange door, at 20.10 we’ll have to close it and go upstairs, it will be hard to get in afterwards, so please make it on time (one of these rare times when it’s really important.

You can also invite friends, but not too many… those who you think would be interested in all that (it’s not a party).

A Berlin based non-commercial forum for both audience and artists interested in experimental music and video works, as well as installations and workshops.

Salon Bruit started in 2002 in Berlin as an open platform for international artists of various backgrounds who experiment with sound, art, music and noise in unconventional ways. Regular meetings with Berlin residents and visiting guests led to an increase in thei audience, an ever-expanding radius of action and ultimately to the establishment of the nonprofit association Salon Bruit eV. in 2008. Their activities include concerts, performances, independent radio projects and exhibitions in Berlin and other European cities.

A unique quality of the association is its open, interdisciplinary and independent approach. The main interest lies in the international exchange of ideas and the consequent synergies that this encourages. The emphasis is mostly put on the idea of sharing and networking, which is enhanced by Salon Bruit’s policy of inviting a mixture of local and visiting artists to the same events. These events take place mostly in the smallest cinema in Berlin, the “Lichtblick Kino” – a renowned independent cinema in the old eastern part of the city. Most of this is documented and some of it played locally on air when the occasion arises. Salon Bruit’s roots are deeply entwined with local Free Radio scene in Berlin. Past collaborative projects have been Ersatzradio, RadioRiff, Reboot.FM, radioherbst, Mikro.FM, Dazwischenfunken in Potsdam, Funkwelle and most recently Herbstradio.

Walking through 8 rooms and 8 different ways to have an idea at TAMTAMTAM event at Direktorenhaus on 10 September.

On the 10th of September TAMTAMTAM Collective had an opening of our 2-month residency at Direktorenhaus. Eight different ways to reside and eight different ways of having ideas. Interview room, Hands on room, Hypnogogic room, Solidifying waves of occurrence room, CUE room, and many other spatially distributed propositions and tasks to be randomly performed by random guests. The five future events will intensify the ideas and images that came up during the evening and you are invited to visit us in Direktorenhaus next week and join in the creation.
Here’s some snapshots of situations, images, and objects that everyone produced during the evening.

Find more images on the event’s page.
